Our Mission

Our goal is to support small businesses, especially those in the hardware and technical fields. We provide a variety of services tailored to the individual businesses we support, ranging from initial proof of concept discussions, to manufacturing equipment access & training, to space rentals.

In 2023 we moved to our current location in Satellite Beach Florida. This location, with its BU-2 zoning, is a 1st floor unit that allows scientific and technical use. We have control over our power and water at this location, which allows specialized equipment for assembly work including soldering, 3D printing, autoclave, die cutting, sewing assembly, heat press, & sublimation.

Sunshine Labs was formed in 2014 by Jane Brooks Zurn (Rampersad). She saw a need for light manufacturing support in the community in Longwood. A friend had started a business but the community laser engraver had irreparably broken. While investigating how to help their community resolve this issue, the doors opened for her to purchase a laser engraver herself. After that project successfully completed, she partnered with another community member & expanded the manufacturing tools available, in a light industrial space in Longwood, Florida. They offered access to the laser, 3D printers, a CNC machine, electronic assembly equipment including a pick n place machine, and various sized rental spaces in the facility for offices and warehouse/manufacturing space.

The space was off to a flying start; by late 2014 Sunshine Labs had been mentioned in Orlando Business Journal, and received a $50,000 grant from the Small Business Administration to support hardware accelerators in underserved areas. That’s when we realized we’d started Orlando’s first hardware accelerator. We used the funds to open two additional locations, one in south Orlando, and one in Melbourne, FL.

We ended up paring back for a number of years to focus on family, and evolved to property management for small technical-focused businesses and startups. Recently we’ve expanded our bandwidth to return to our original mission of serving technical & scientific businesses, now supporting small established businesses as well as startups.
